DOCTOR WHO Conquers the World

DoctorWhoTheaterReleaseby Team TVWriter™ Press Service

THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR, AKA the long awaited 50th Anniversary Episode of DOCTOR WHO, isn’t just going to be a TV show. Oh, no, no, no. It’s also appearing in movie theaters all over the planet. As Who fans, we find this utterly amazing. (And as BREAKING BAD fans we wonder why the hell BB didn’t do this too before it checked out of our DVR list.

All the theater screenings will be in 3D, and they’ll all take place at the same time as the UK broadcast on BBC One November 23rd. If you’re in the UK, the good news is that 216 VUE, Cineworld, Odeon, BFI and Picturehouse cinemas in the UK and Ireland have already confirmed their participation, and tickets for the anniversary screening went on sale a few days ago, on Friday, October 25th in London, Birmingham, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Cardiff and Edinburgh. (Here’s hoping they’re still available.)

Internationally, German, Russian, American and Canadian fans will be able to gather in cinemas to enjoy the simulcast release with approximately 30 cinemas in Germany and up to 50 theaters debuting the episode in Russia. The celebrations will cross time (and space) zones travelling over the equator to New Zealand and Australia where fans will have a choice of 106 cinemas across both countries to view the episode in 3D on the big screen on the 24th November, following the simulcast TV broadcast earlier in the morning. read article

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Nick Zano (some actor type) is co-writing the comedy pilot, NICKY, with Andrew Reich & Ted Cohen (FRIENDS) for CBS. (It’s another supposedly autobiographical series, this time about Zano’s life being “raised in a multigeneration house of seven women in New Jersey. So we know that the character will either be a lover or hater of, well, women…and New Jersey. At least it’s a start.)
  • David Caspe (HAPPY ENDINGS) & Erik Sommers (COMMUNITY) are writing the pilot for CBS’s ROOMMATES, a comedy about an ultra cool ladies man who ends up having to room with a slob. (Does Neil Simon know about this? In TV it sometimes seems like the details change but the song always remains the same.)
  • Erik Sommers (yeppers, the very same) is also writing an ABC pilot about a young woman doctor in a chaotic inner city ER. (Actually, the press release describes her as a “plucky young doctor,” but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to write that. Probably not a good sign.)
  • Dan St. Germain (web series KICKING DAN OUT) is writing an untitled Fox comedy about a guy who moves in with his ex and her new boyfriend so he can learn what went wrong with the relationship. (No word on why the ex is letting him do this. Maybe cuz he’s, like, the star?)
  • Phil Rosenthal (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) is co-writing an unnamed ABC pilot that will feature none other than class act – we mean this – Henry Winkler with Max Winkler (NEW GIRL) & Bob Reinis (another actor type). (This series is going to be gold, you’ll see – but it’ll still be cancelled after 13 episodes. You’ll see that too.)

The Creator of LOST Talks About Life, Showbiz, and Getting Found

Jeffrey Lieber et al

Mr. Lieber’s the one everybody’s listening to in the pic above. Good on him.

Oh, and we kinda suspect that he won’t really like this headline much cuz he’s done a hunka other really great things (Tuck Everlasting, Miami Medical, Necessary Roughness, to name a few) as well. Behold Part 1: read article

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Lindsay Devlin (newbie!) is adapting Rachel Cohn’s book Beta as an ABC pilot about a world where human clones serve as slaves for the wealthy, which is thrown into turmoil when the protagonist clone learns a few, you know, secrets about the society she lives in. (In other words, ABC has found a way to rip off the masterful ORPHAN BLACK. Raise your hand if you think they can carry this off even half as successfully.)
  • Philip Levens (SMALLVILLE) is writing the pilot for SINS, an ABC primetime soap about a very dangerous woman. (Don’t worry. The series has been worked out with lots more details. It’s just that we thought they were so boring that we couldn’t bring ourselves to type them.)
  • Sarah Hooper (The UK version of SHAMELESS) is adapting the Argentinian series LOS ROLDAN into an ABC comedy thing set in Miami and featuring a mostly Latin cast. (Think UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS except not really.)
  • Andrew Marlowe (CASTLE) is bringing Raymond Chandler’s classic private detective Philip Marlowe into contemporary L.A. for ABC. (Actually, he’s co-writing it with his wife, Terri Edda Miller, but for some reason her participation isn’t being blared quite as loudly as his. Hmm…)
  • Glen Morgan (THE X-FILES) is developing a supernatural thriller called THE INTRUDERS for BBC America, based on a novel of the same name by Michael Marshall Smith. (We’re looking forward to this one. The book’s gotten great reviews, and two of the producers who made the comeback of DOCTOR WHO great, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, are producing. Now if only RTD were aboard…)
