The Silver Surfer

The good news is that THE SILVER SURFER was a major hit for the Fox Kids Network when it aired in 1997. The bad news is that legal differences between Saban and Marvel brought the series to an abrupt end. Although the problems have long been resolved, this show is, sad to say, history, with other Marvel properties coming in to replace it.

In addition to the thirteen episodes that aired during the series’ brief lifetime, I also wrote eight additional scripts for what we thought would be the second season. If you watched the show and are curious about what was supposed to come next you can get a pretty good idea by taking a look at the Episode Guide.

Every animated TV series–and most primetime series as well–begins with a Bible, and it serves not one, not two, but three purposes. First, it’s a sales tool, drumming up interest in a show. Second, once the show is sold the Bible tells the network what to expect from each episode. Third, it guides the creativity of the writers and artists, getting them into the right mindset.

THE SILVER SURFER Bible is in two parts, the “Concept,” which is a general overview of what this series is supposed to be, and the “Universe,” which is a more detailed explanation. If you’re interested in writing animation and maybe creating a series–or you just want to know more about THE SILVER SURFER–have a look.

Wait, there’s more: Want to see a storyboard from the show? And the part of the script it was based on? Of course you do.

Looking for videos of the episodes themselves? They’re all right HERE.

But this is  TVWriter™, isn’t it? So in response to all the questions I get about what animated scripts are like, here’s my chance to do two good deeds at once. For those of you who’ve been asking what an animation script looks like and for those loyal fans who never got to see how the Surfer was going to save the universe at the beginning of the second season, here’s a work very few people have seen, “THE END OF ETERNITY: PART TWO,” a final draft doomed never to come to life on the drawing board.

You can also find “THE END OF ETERNITY: PART TWO” and some insider info on the series in a blog post by none other than Larry Brody himself that happens to be on this very site, HERE.

UPDATED! And now the  piece de resistance. It’s taken a bit of tracking down, but here, in order, are the full scripts – some first drafts, some finals, a few in between – for the remaining seven episodes in the preliminary second season order. Yes, this is how THE SILVER SURFER would have continued had it, indeed, continued:

SOUL HUNTER: PART TWO

DOWN TO EARTH: PART TWO

DOWN TO EARTH: PART THREE
