Aspiring writers often wonder how the pros got where they are. The truth is, everyone’s story is different, but there are some common elements: dedication, persistence, hard work and not giving up.

An alum of NBC’s Writers on the Verge, Rashad Raisani originally moved to Los Angeles with the goal of becoming a feature writer, but found television to be a much better fit. He got his first writing job on the USA Network show BURN NOTICE where he rose from staff writer to co-executive producer. He also wrote for WHITE COLLAR and was executive producer on the NBC drama ALLEGIANCE. Currently he is developing projects as part of an overall deal with Universal Television.

  • Bill Hader (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE) has a development deal with HBO and will create and star in a new comedy series there. (Cuz dude’s fucking funny, man. Yeah, I know Lorne Michaels messed with him. But you know how it is with guys like Lorne. Just can’t understand true genius – like HBO can.)
  • Glen Mazzara (THE WALKING DEAD) is developing DAMIEN, described as “the antichrist in…a new TV series” over at Lifetime. (OMG! Just think how many women Damien could endanger! All the abuse he can heap on ’em! All the power he can take away! This is perfect for Lifetime, just perfect. Kudos to whatever genius executive came up with this concept…cuz God knows no self-respecting writer ever would.)
  • Speaking of horror shows, WE TV has hired Matt Lambert (can’t find any info on the right Matt Lambert) to write the pilot for SOUTH OF HELL, a show about a demon hunter, bringing James Manos Jr. (DEXTER) aboard as showrunner when the series goes on the air in 2015. (Guess Lambert and the WEe development geniuses aren’t getting along. Too bad Glen Mazzara didn’t step into this one though. Man knows how to write about chasing evil like nobody else.
  • Here’s a cool switch: Loren Bouchard (BOB’S BURGERS) and the rest of the staff of that selfsame cult hit series are turning it into a comic book series instead of the usual other way around.  (As a lifelong – well, actually I started reading ’em in the womb – comic book fan, Yer Friendly Neighborhood Muncher thinks that’s awesome. I always wanted to write comics, and now I know how to get in. Just strike it lucky on TV!)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Time once aain to call your agent. The History Channel is looking for writers for two projects. The first is a mini-series about escape artist Harry Houdini, starring Adrien Brody. The second is a mini about that daring group of radicals – Sam Adams, John Hancock, John Adams, Paul Revere, Patrick Henry and good ole Benny Arnold – who sparked the American Revolution. (Gee, we wondered how that happened.)
  • Glen Mazzara (THE WALKING DEAD) is writing a prequel to THE SHINING for Warner Brothers. No word on whether it’s for a feature film or TV. (Congrats, Glen. No Robert Kirkman to get in your face on this project, eh? Although we hear that Steven King can always be counted on to have a contribution or three.)
  • B.J. Novak (THE OFFICE) is now officially a writer, having made a 7-figure deal for a memoir type book…which certainly is more than most career writers will ever get. (Which means that the book is guaranteed to become a television project with the first 3 months of its publication. Yeah, that’s a prediction. You can quote us.)
  • Dreamworks Animation is planning a feature film and TV series based on the once-huge Trolls toy franchise. (Which means it’s time for you to write something incredibly stupid and get your agent to show it as a sample so you have a shot at one of the gigs.)
  • Suzette Couture (JESUS) has sold BABYSELLERS as a sequel to the Lifetime movie HUMAN TRAFFICKING, proving that nobody ever went broke appealing to the absolutely worst instincts in any audience. (Don’t be jealous. Lifetime pay is crap.)

munchman: WTF? Turns Out AMC Didn’t Shitcan THE WALKING DEAD Showrunner Glen Mazerra After All

…It was really all the fault of The Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman. What an a-hole!
