A lot of exciting stuff is going on. The biggie: Chilltown was listed by ABCNews/Univision as Web Series That Should Be On Your Radar!!!!! And we got an incredible review! Ecstatically happy about it. Also, did a ton of fun radio including Geek Soul Brother,Educated Insanity (on ChicagolandsportsRadio), The Bobby Pickles Show and KRYC Rhythm 105.9 FM !! Also released Episode 6 of Chilltown and people are telling me they love it. In spite of all that, there’s still a bit of frustration that always boils down to the same thing: How can I get more people to watch? We’re still a very tiny show in an enormous pool. Have a lot of plans in place for additional shows and specials that (hopefully) will make a little noise. But it’s a tough tough game. Much tougher than I expected. But, in all, a really good week.

And I heard from Rollo. Last Friday, went to another YouTube meeting and it was great! Met some cool people plus got to see the YouTube studios at Next New Networks NYC. Very exciting. They have a couple of green screen studios with pro lights and cameras. Some of the collabs I’m involved with will probably be done there. Part of the meeting involved having a tour and being shown the ropes (a prerequisite to using their space.) Their computers are probably a billion times faster than mine, so can’t wait to do some editing there. A guy name Chris Chan Roberson runs stuff there and he’s great. They had pizza and drinks after and everybody was schmoozing and just like clockwork right towards the end, my phone rings. Guess who? Rollo happens to be in the area and we meet. read article

What Have We Learned from the 1st Week of the 2012 Season?

Some interesting bits, actually:

Teaming with the Smiths Pays Off

That’s Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and the guy it’s paying off for is J. Michael Straczynski of BABYLON 5 fame.

J. Michael Straczynski ‘cuz we’ve all seen plenty of Will and Jada

What we hear is that ABC has put a Straczynski-Smith-Smith series in development with a script-to-series commitment, which means that based on a pilot script alone ABC either will order/put into production 13 episodes of the series…or it won’t.

But, hey, at least there’s no pilot to diddle around with. read article

Deadline.Com Features New Writing Deals

…Complete with pics of the writers and verbiage that makes them seem, if not exactly stars, definitely important. You don’t see that everyday, and it’s one of the reasons (the biggest one) why we report on Deadline.Com’s reporting as much as we do. (Oh, so that’s what we do. Good to know.) Deadline’s latest announcement:

ABC has handed a script commitment with penalty to Dumb F*ck, a single-camera comedy from FishBowl Worldwide Media. Joss Whedon’s March to Victory Continues

We’re showing an old cover of “Marvel Mystery Comics” because the exact nature of Joss Whedon’s new series for Marvel is – aw, you guessed it – still a mystery. Yeah.

As if he wasn’t busy enough, Disney has just announced that everybody’s Screen and TV Writer of the Hour is now set to:

  1. Write and Direct the sequel to this year’s smash film THE AVENGERS, which he also wrote and directed
  2. Develop a live-action series featuring Marvel characters for ABC

No one’s giving any details on what Marvel characters they are, but no matter their names, powers, and secret tragedies, we can’t think of anyone who could do a better job on them than the man behind DOLLHOUSE, FIREFLY, ANGEL, and everybody’s favorite vampire slayer, BUFFY.

EDITED BY LB TO ADD: Know those recent rumors that Marvel was about to start work on a TV version of THE HULK but was waiting for the writer they wanted to be available? I’m thinking Joss was the writer and that now that this deal’s in place we’ll be hearing about it soon. Bouquets gratefully accept when I’m proven right. Brickbats for when I’m shown to be wrong? Nah. read article
