- Gregg Hurwitz (V) is writing the pilot for NEW ANGELES, a series that not only sounds a lot like THE MATRIX when you read the P.R. (which the mighty muncher won’t put you through) but which also has Keanu Reeves attached. (And Roland Emmerich too. Strangely, no network has been announced as paying for this thing. Some people might wonder why, but not yers truly cuz…THE MATRIX? Again? And Keanu Reeves? Oi!)
- Nick Rutherford & Allison Rich (some SMURFS stuff) have been added to the writing staff of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. (If you know ’em, time to send the biggest congratulation bouquets you can afford. Or not cuz…SNL writers? Remembering their old friends? Is there a basis for that in recorded history? Huh?)
- Nikki Toscano (who has such a great name that who the hell cares about her credits?) is writing LAST HOUR, an action drama pilot for CBS. (It’s being done in “real time” ala 24, so whatcha think? Hit? Miss? Can Nikki‘s name save the day in (real) time?)
- Nick Thomas (LET’S BE COPS) is writing the pilot for 100 GRAND, called an “action comedy that centers on two guys who learn how to grow up in the most unexpected way: paying off a debt for a local crime boss.” (Not rain on anybody’s parade but , um, and then what happens? Send your episode ideas to me at – no, wait, don’t bother. Not a chance in the Netherworld this’ll get on the air. C’mon, admit it – don’tcha know I’m right?
That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)

- Lauren Iungerich (AWKWARD) is writing the pilot for COUCH DETECTIVE, an ABC series about a young woman detective who solves crimes “based on her encyclopedic knowledge of every true-crime TV special, police procedural and made-for-TV movie. (At last, a potential show for LB to work on! Time to hit the phones, boss. And yer friendly neighborhood munchman thinks it’s a pretty good idea too!)
- James Ellroy (some crazy novelist) is developing an untitled noir series for HBO. (Which also could be right up LB’s alley. Are you reading this, man? Agent convo time, no?)
- Larry Kaplow (HOUSE) has sold an untitled medical show with an eccentric protagonist to CBS. (With, methinks, a little help from his friends and producing partners on the project, Katie Jacobs and some babe name of Halle Berry. You guys got room for LB on this one? Huh?)
- Seth Grahame-Smith (ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER) is writing the pilot for THE THINGS THEY LEFT BEHIND, based on a Stephen King short story of the same name. (Uh-oh, just got a text from LB. “Stop looking at gigs for me, muncher!!! I’m too old, too rich, and way too full of my own self to work for anybody anymore, let alone the geniuses you’re trying to set me up with.” Gotcha, boss man, sorry. Too bad Stephen King doesn’t feel the same way. Every time he joins a project, even a Stephen King adaptation – well, you all know how it comes out. Not saying that you wouldn’t be brilliant if you were back in TV, LB, but–
(EDITED BY LB TO ADD: Muncher, I told you to SHUT UP!!!)
So, um, that’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
‘Tis the season for deals, deals, everywhere. But not a drop for…alack!…the poor minions slaving at TVWriter™:

- Janet Tamaro (RIZZOLI & ISLES) is stepping down as showrunner of the TNT hit in order to develop new projects. (Ain’t nobody here gonna argue against that. Wonder how much longer the show can last without her, though.)
- Becky Hartman Edwards (SWITCHED AT BIRTH) is writing the drama pilot FAR FROM THE TREE for Fox. (Yes, she’s noted for comedy, but even TV development execs can see that a show about the family of a terrorist – yes, that’s what this is about – won’t be funny. Well, not too funny anyway.)
- Damon Lindelof (LOST) has gotten a 10 episode series pickup from HBO for his drama series THE LEFTOVERS about what happens to the people who didn’t make the cut after, you know, the Rapture thing. (Leave it to TV to cash in on the Rapture long after it’s lost any value it may ever have had. We humbly submit our suggestion for the TV development model: “Forward to the past!”)
- Lauren Iungerich (AWKWARD), who seem to be talking about here all the time, has sold BITCH OFF THE OL’ BLOCK to NBC. It’s a comedy about a professional woman whose life is disrupted when her daughter, a younger version of herself, moves in with her and her roommates. (Didn’t we write about several other versions of this just yesterday? Oh, but they were at ABC, so this is all fine. Anybody know a smiley that means >shudder<?)
- Joe Port & LB’s former student Joe Wiseman (JOE, JOE AND JANE) are writing an untitled NBC comedy pilot about a 16 year old prodigy chef. (Cuz you know how much the TV audience loves teenagers and chefs and comedy. Well, at least NBC loves ’em – we hope.)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

- Lauren Iungerich (AWKWARD) has sold DAMAGED GOODS, a sitcom about “sexual politics,” to ABC. (Ah, sexual politics. The buzz phrase of 2013. Who cares if nobody knows what it means? )
- Mike O’Malley (SHAMELESS) is writing the pilot for Starz’ SURVIVOR’S REMORSE, a sitcom about sports stars and how they adjust to no longer living in, you know, a bad neighborhood. (It stars NBA all-star LeBron James, who should know…but how do you make this funny yet grounded in the real world at the same time?)
- Jessica Sharzer (AMERICAN HORROR STORY) has the pilot for ABC’s NO WAY BACK, based on the bestselling novel by Andrew Gross. (The book is all about a “web of treachery,” so television definitely should get at least that part right.)
- Sam Shaw (MASTERS OF SEX) is developing a WGN America drama series called MANHATTAN, about that thing they did in New Mexico that created the atom bomb. (So if you’re hoping for an adaptation of the old Woody Allen film – sorry.)
- Todd Jones & Earl Richey Jones (JOHNSON FAMILY VACATION) are writing an untitled Fox sitcom about Judge Greg Mathis. (Cuz His Honor’s already famous, don’tchaknow, thanks to his own syndicated series, and since audiences are addicted to fame, well, everybody’s gonna watch, right?)
- Michael Schur (PARKS & RECREATION) has extended his Universal Television deal through 2016. (And inasmuch as we lurves P&R we’re, um, thrilled not only for him but for ourselves as viewers.)
