Leesa Dean: Adventures of a Web Series Newbie

Chapter 78: Juggling Less
by Leesa Dean

I’m not a huge circus fan but I seem to spend a lot of time juggling.  And it’s kinda driving me nuts.juggling

I’m simultaneously working on three projects (including a writing/developing brand new one), taking meetings, prepping to (gasp) start pitching and trying to maintain everything in, well, life.  Did I mention I’m also thinking about filming a couple of mini-shorts?

Chapter 77 – A Guide To Waiting
by Leesa Dean

waiting-room-signBeen working like a psycho putting in 12-15 hour days prepping a teeny tiny sizzle reel for a seriously long shot meeting I finally had this week.  What are the chances of anything happening with this?  Probably non-existent. So why’d I put all this work into something that most likely won’t materialize?  Cause one, it’s still a shot, two, if it doesn’t work out I can still use it and three, hey, I created a new show idea and really love it.

So while I await my fate (and plunge back into my usually scheduled work), here are some tips I’ve figured out to help get through the sheer hellish agony of awaiting your fate after an all-important meeting.  These not only apply to pitching tv writing/shows, but really, any type of job interview:

1) Stock up on sugar.  Yeah, you’ll be hyped up and, probably, destroying your body and teeth, but now is not the time to worry about minor stuff like that. The big picture: sugar’ll make you feel GREAT! plus it’s, generally, a better choice than substances that might be considered, say, a federal offense in some places. read article

Peer Production: CONSTANCE AND FLORENCE & IS THIS THING ON?

TVWriter™ has written about Lou Stone Borenstein before. He’s a funny dood who, in addition to placing 2nd in the 2009 Spec Scriptacular, has also created some very funny videos, including this new web series called CONSTANCE AND FLORENCE:

Can’t help it. Lou breaks us up every time.

Peer Production: We aren’t the Only Ones Who Love BECOMING RICARDO

We’ve written about the web series BECOMING RICARDO numerous times on this site. So, for that matter, have its creators. (Do a site search and be amazed. Go on. We’ll wait.) Now, though, it’s time to tell you how the Web Series Channel, a primo peer production destination, feels about this subject:

Becoming Ricardo is a half hour quirky, fun family sitcom! It’s about a girl, named Jesenia, a struggling actress who aspires to be a famous non-struggling actress – and will do just about anything to make it happen. Lucky for her – there is an Open Call audition for the HIT TV show – Crime, Law and Justice. read article

Peer Production: EVERYONE’S FAMOUS

At last! A web comedy series that doesn’t just intend to be funny but actually is funny. Especially when it’s taking shots at itself. In other words, EVERYONE’S FAMOUS is about the wonderful interweb phenomenon where all of us believe fame in and of itself is a worthy life’s goal – made by people who are slogging away at achieving that very goal.

In other words – we love this:

Everyone’s Famous is a comedy web series created by Andrew BushWalter Forsyth and Angus Swantee. read article
