Peggy Bechko: Writing Tips From One of TVWriter™’s Favorite Writers

My good friend Larry Brody, head honcho here at TVWriter™ seems to think my input on writing might be a welcome thing – so I’m happy to oblige.

I think as writers we all hear a lot of ‘tips’. How to do this, that and the other. You know, kind of nuts and bolts sort of thing. I also believe writers get a lot of that basic advice everywhere, so I think I’ll take a different direction and use broader strokes. We’re going to skip the grammar, punctuation, spelling thing and hit on other topics. I mean, English is the basic tool of communication. I hope you’ve learned it. If you haven’t, then do it. Lots of classes and information online and at local community colleges. Enough said on that subject.

munchman: Josh Berman Looks Way Too Young to be So Important

Really. Look at this:

Bugs the heck out of me. He looks like the kid I’d hire to mow my lawn. If I had a lawn. And if he didn’t seem so damn confident. I’m not all that into other people being confident around me, you know?

But the youthful Mr. Berman doesn’t need to mow lawns because what he does for a living is create and run shows like DROP DEAD DIVA and the upcoming THE MOB DOCTOR. And to make me hate him even more he has another new project at CBS, based on – yeah, this is upsetting – an article in a snobby-assed East Coast magazine! (Atlantic Monthly) read article

Do Stand-Up? IFC May Want to Give You a Show

IFC Inks Deal With Chris Gethard Under New Programming Initiative For Comedians – by Nellie Andreeva (Deadline.Com)

IFC has launched an “Adopt-A-Comic” program designed to spotlight the standout work of comedians who share the cable network’s “Slightly Off” sensibilities. The network’s first “adoptee” is comedian Chris Gethard(The Chris Gethard Show) who will develop his own comedy series for IFC based on his recent book, A Bad Idea I’m About To Do: True Tales Of Seriously Poor Judgment And Stunningly Awkward Adventure.  IFC has ordered a pilot script of the project. Additionally, Gethard will host on-air programming, create exclusive content for IFC.com and more. “When I told my parents I was being adopted by a television station, they said ‘Why do you need to be adopted? You are 32 years old. We gave you a pretty good, easy suburban life,’” Gethard said. “They don’t get how much of an opportunity it is for me that a hip cable network wants to raise me like a human baby.” Next year, Gethard will be seen in Iron Man 3 and is currently shooting Paul Feig’s The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy for 20th Century Fox.
