Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 10/14/12

Money, money everywhere, but not a ¢ for us.
  • Ron Weiner (30 ROCK) is writing an untitled workplace comedy about “a contentious work marriage” and adapting the UK comedy WHITES as well, both as projects for NBC (because sometimes even NBC knows a good writer when they see one).
  • Tommy Dewey & Greg Bratman (SONS OF TUCSON for Fox) are writing the pilot for a sitcom based on the life of some singer or actor or something name’a John Legend, also for Fox (because it’s, like, a legendary life, we suppose).
  • and a whole bunch more producers are prepping ELECTROPOLIS, a drama series about undercover cops lurking amid the hipsters who frequent late-night L.A. clubs for the CW. No word on who’s writing this one (probably because nobody who’s heard about the project can stay awake long enough to wait for the writer’s name.)
  • Howard Franklyn (THE NAME OF THE ROSE, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME) & Dick Wolf (LAW & ORDER FILL IN THE BLANK, CHICAGO FIRE) are writing THE CHURCH a pilot about a religious cult, for NBC (‘cuz they’re very religious guys, we’re sure…or big cultists maybe? Both? Hmm…)
  • Bill Lawrence (SCRUBS, COUGAR TOWN) is writing a romantic comedy, UNDATEABLE for NBC (and while we love this guy’s work and are sure it’ll be awesome, we kinda wish he’d come up with a title we could spell).

Hulu and Viacom are Staying in Bed Together

…And the sex relationship  is even better than ever!

Viacom is extending the deal that puts so much of its cable “product” on Hulu and, in fact, adding several new choices for Hulu visitors/viewers to, erm, choose.

Well, not exactly new. We’re talking mostly about shows like iCARLY, VICTORIOUS, and HOW TO ROCK, which are either formerly hot and watched on TV by only a ghost of their old audience, or just plain deceased although SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS and the upcoming reboot of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES will be available on Hulu Plus. read article

Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 10/13/12

Some news about our most beloved peers:

  • Ty and Duncan Burrell (Ty’s a star of MODERN FAMILY, Duncan’s his bro) will co-write an untitled comedy about – surprise! – their lives as kids for ABC (because if there’s one thing actors truly believe it’s that their lives are made-for-TV)
  • J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk (ALIAS) and a whole bunch more producers are prepping ELECTROPOLIS, a drama series about undercover cops lurking amid the hipsters who frequent late-night L.A. clubs for the CW. No word on who’s writing this one (probably because nobody who’s heard about the project can stay awake long enough to wait for the writer’s name.)
  • Carlton Cuse (LOST) & Ryan Condal (a newbie with a bunch of as-yet-unmade deals) are writing a pilot for NBC based on the graphic novel series The 6th Gun (not to be confused with, say, THE SIX GUN because the title of the book series is so much more, erm, clever. Yeah, clever. Right.)
  • Andrew Leeds & David Lampson (nope, no writing credits here, but as an actor Leeds did play a serial killer on BONES) are writing CONFESSIONS OF A BACKUP DANCER, a drama pilot based on the book of the same name by Tucker Shaw (and we really hope they get it right – this is the 3rd time the CW has tried to develop this series – because as a writer Leeds has to be less dull than he is was as last seasons “Big Bad” on BONES. )

The Hudsonian Sees THE NEIGHBORS

Don’t Invite The Neighbors Over

by Josh Hudson

This ABC show originally aired on September 26, 2012 at 9:30 EST. It has since been moved to 8:30 EST, in between “The Middle” and “Modern Family”. Pretty sure that’s not going to matter.

It’s only fair that one would go to a Disney-owned company for news about athletes. I mean, ESPN is the worldwide leader in sports. The last place I’d look is a gated community in New Jersey, which is the basis of ABC’s new Wednesday night comedy, The Neighbors. Allow me to explain this atrocity. read article
