Well, we’re back at it again. A New Year, with a renewed passion for Cargo 3120! So obviously we at Team Cargo took a nice break over the holiday season. And let me tell you, it was a break much needed, as each of us were able to recharge our batteries for all the tasks needed for this New Year!

Over the past few months, Aaron and I have discussed the various skills we’ve had to learn in order to get to this point. However, we have not gone over the various juggling acts we’ve had to perform in order to make Cargo 3120 happen. read article

CARGO3120Entry 13 – The Ins and Outs of the Animatic Short

by Daymond C. Roman

(EDITOR’S NOTE: The Story So Far starts HERE)

As I stressed last week, having a strong online presence is important. However, we didn’t want to limit ourselves to a website and social media. Meaning, backstory, concept art, and personnel bios are great, but we also wanted to provide our audience with actual content. But what? A one shot comic? A collection of character and location sketches with captions? A trailer/teaser of some sort? In the end, we decided to merge all of those ideas into one, an Animatic Short.

Last year, I took an audio production class at El Paso Community College. For our final project, we had to produce and audio program on any subject we chose. Naturally, I wanted to make a Cargo 3120 audio show! Aaron was just as excited about the prospect of (at least) hearing the world that we were working so hard on. read article

Chapter 88: Hitting the Ground Running
by Leesa Dean

Happy New Year everybody.  I’m really looking forward to 2015.  A lot of exciting things happening.

I started off the year in a good way, meaning chilling a bit but mostly writing.  I connected with an old friend and we discussed some real building possibilities which I’m SUPER excited about.  It’s too soon to talk about them but if/when they progress, you’ll be hearing about it here first.

So, I did a lot of thinking over the holidays and really honed in on my strategizing.  Since I’m working on a number of projects I’m working on, I decided to actually lay out a time plan so I literally write/produce/promote one and once it’s off the ground, start on the next. Needless to say, the first one I’m focused on is the new and improved Lele Show.  I readjusted my plans for the show, tightened the writing and still have a bit more to finish.  I feel so good about what’s already in the can, it’s just a nice place to be. read article

Hank Isaac: Underfunded Overachievers

lilac big scene
Night, cars, crowds – the most expensive scene in LILAC

The Crafting of “Lilac” Part 3
by Hank Isaac

I came to screenwriting and film making from the visual arts. My undergraduate degree is in Industrial Design. When I was in design school back in the 60s, the head of the program would always give his charges a little pep talk at the beginning of each school year. As young eager students, we generally zoned out during the talk.

But I do remember – all these years later – one significant comment. He said (again, my paraphrasing): It’s quite easy to draw a pencil line on a piece of paper. Just remember that, eventually, hundreds and perhaps even thousands of people will be spending potentially millions of dollars to make that line. And then they’ll be cranking them out – one each second – and people all around the world will be looking at and using that line. Their lives might even hang in the balance on that line (the head of the program was a designer of surgical instruments). Corporations. The world economy. The future of humanity. Anything could hinge on that line.

Just remember… you do have an eraser. read article
