The Film Writers Association (FWA) on Saturday declared a ‘pen-down’ strike and called for action to association members and writing community at large.

Every five years, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) signs a MoU with the producers’ bodies to ensure a wage-increase and improved conditions for workers. This year FWA and other talent-based unions including cinematographers, editors, art directors, sound recordists, etc, have decided to make the standards contract a part of this MoU. read article

Iceland Writers Retreat is offering one talented writer plane tickets to Iceland and a free delegate’s ticket to its April program.

In addition to a round-trip airfare, the winner will receive a full retreat package including accommodation, tours, most meals and all workshops for the duration of the retreat which runs from 13 to 17 April 2016. The flights must be from a direct destination and the package does not include airport transfers, travel insurance or visas (if required).

The successful candidate must demonstrate that he or she does not have the financial means to attend the conference without this award. Candidates do not need to be professional writers, but should be serious about the craft and interested in developing their skills and contacts. read article

Motion Picture Academy Announces Nicholl Award Winners

Five individuals have been selected as winners of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition.  The Academy is celebrating theunnamed 30th anniversary of the global competition which aims to identify and encourage talented new screenwriters.  Each winner will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which will be distributed at an awards presentation on Wednesday, November 4, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.  For the third consecutive year, the event also will include a live read of selected scenes from the fellows’ winning scripts.
