The Background:

The Black List is where moviemakers find great scripts to make and scripts find moviemakers to make them.

It began as a survey. In 2005, Franklin Leonard surveyed almost 100 film industry development executives about their favorite scripts from that year that had not been made as feature films. That first list – many of which have been made since – can be viewed here. Since then the voter pool has grown to about 500 film executives, 60% of whom typically respond. read article

Kathy reviews “APE: How To Publish A Book–Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur”

ape
APE is available at Amazon.Com

Disclosure: I’m entering my 13th year as a novelist, with over 20 published books as of this writing. I am both pro-traditional publishing and pro-self-publishing. My review comes from a completely neutral viewpoint.

Interested in self-publishing? Who isn’t now days? While the book publishing industry is undergoing major–and I mean major–upheaval right now, it’s never been a better time to be an author. Anyone can publish a book, which is the main idea behind APE. Guy Kawasaki is a case in point.

Basically APE is an amalgamation of information that’s readily available on the internet–for free. Kawasaki is about a year late with his entry into the Self-Publishing Guide genre, although he’s covered by stating that the info in this book can change at any minute, and how awesome is it that he can update his book at anytime? Just one of many benefits of self-publishing. read article

Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 12/19/12

Latest News About Writers Doing Better Than We Are

  • Double Down: Game Change 2012, by Mark Halperin & John Heilemann has been bought by HBO. Book is a sequel to the original Game Change which was made into an HBO film starring Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin. (Does this mean Sarah will be back? We mean, that Julianne will be back? ‘Cuz for reasons having nothing to do with artistic merit that would be awesome!)
  • Ethan Sandler & Adrian Wenner (EPITAPH, THE PRINCESS DIARIES) are writing the AMC sitcom pilot WE HATE PAUL REVERE, set in colonial Boston and about 2 brothers who aren’t big Paul Revere fans. (Does this mean Paul Revere & The Raiders, our parents’ favorite ancient rock band, will be coming to TV? ‘Cuz for reasons having nothing to do with our hard-on for Sarah Palin, that would be awesome!)
  • Unknown Writer (this could be your/our big chance) will soon be writing the ABC Family pilot RECOVERY ROAD, based on Blake Nelson‘s novel of the same name about a teenage girl who finds love at rehab. (Does this mean that idiotic relationships are coming to TV? ‘Cuz that could justify a lot of existences, including our own!)
  • Stacey Jay is writing JULIET IMMORTAL, an adaptation of her book by the same name describged by the H’wood Reporter as “a paranormal love story revolving around Romeo and Juliet, who meet again…as enemies.” (Yes! Idiotic relationships are indeed in, hip, and trendy now on the small screen. Our miserable lives here at TVWriter™ are now totally justified!)
