  • Anna Fricke (BEING HUMAN) has a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television and will serve as showrunner of HIEROGLYPH, for which she wrote a pilot so hot that they aren’t even wasting time shooting a pilot. It’s just go, go, go on the series itself. (Hey, Anna, you don’t know the munchman but I’m flat out calling it – munchie adores your work. Good luck on this one!)
  • Matt Miller, Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O’Brien and Katie Thomas have a deal with TV Land to bring their web series, TEACHERS, to the Big Time Small Screen.  (And if this doesn’t get all you TVWriter™ers working on your peer production you deserve what you get…or, in that case, don’t get. CREATE YOUR OWN WEB SERIES, DAMMIT. AL OF YOU!)
  • Seth Fisher & Danny MacKey (newbs!) are developing JACKASS OF ALL TRADES, a comedy about a guy trying to make his living via odd jobs on Craigslist, for TBS. (Oh frabjous day! All our announcements are belong to really cool people finally getting the kinds of chances they deserve! Halloo, hallay!)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Roberto Benabib (WEEDS) is writing a comedy pilot for HBO called THE BRINK, which reports call “Epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three…men.” (Personally, we’d find it funnier if someone just had the balls to say it was a political satire and eschew the rest of the verbiage. Let’s hope that logline – which is much longer than what’s here – was the network’s and not the writer’s.)
  • Ben Queen (CARS 2) has an NBC pilot deal for A TO Z, a comedy about a relationship from meeting to breakup. (It ends on a breakup? And this is comedy? Oh, NBC, NBC, how far hast thou fallen?)
  • John Cabrera (H+ the web series) is writing a monster movie for Syfy, which may be a backdoor pilot. (Syfy-monster movie, who’d a thunk? Of course it’ll be a pilot!)
  • John Hamburg (MEET THE PARENTS & Matt Miller (CHUCK) are developing a CBS comedy called GOOD SESSION about a couple’s first meeting through the rough days of the “present” as told through counseling sessions. (So which came first, gang? This or A TO Z? Interesting, ain’t it, how crap ideas always come in pairs?)
  • Sheri Elwood (Canada’s CALL ME FITZ) is developing BAGEL NATION for ABC. (Like with a name like BAGEL NATION we woulda thought it was a police procedural, right? Still, how bad can a show about a Jewish deli now owned by goyem be? Yeah, right. That bad.)
  • Paul Scheer (some kind of comedian turned writer) is writing an ABC comedy about a couple trying to keep their relationship together while going through the hoops set up by multiple sets of parents, spouses, and children. (Yes, they’re calling this one a “family comedy,” presumably cuz it’s about, you know, a family. Sigh…)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Gwyn Lurie & Gary Marks (THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED) are writing SPARKS, a drama pilot for NBC based on the career of a real-life super neurologist. (Yep, brains are in this season. So much so that it’s making our head hurt.)
  • Matt Miller (CHUCK) is writing FOREVER, a pilot about an immortal pathologist for NBC. (The idea seems to be that he knows how everyone else dies but can’t seem to find something that will kill him. Which we understand the poor hero wanting to do since he’ll be, you know, stuck on NBC.)
  • Darren Star (SEX AND THE CITY) is writing YOUNGER, a TV Land pilot about a 40-something woman who re-starts her life by passing as a lass in her twenties. (We hate this idea because it seems to “inside” – there was a TV writer who did this very thing a few years ago – but admit we would’ve bought it too cuz, hey, fucking Darren fucking Star, you know?)
  • Thomas Moran (HOUSE) is writing the pilot for ST. NICK, a Fox drama series about a young priest going down the wrong path. (As in he allows himself to be corrupted! Can you believe it? Oh, the shock. The shame! The outraged letters from parishioners if this hits the air.)
  • Dan Fogelman (THE NEIGHBORS) has a new overall deal with ABC Studios. (And while we aren’t crazy about THE NEIGHBORS we probably would’ve signed up the guy who created the CARZ animated film franchise too. Ka-ching!)
