The Austin Film Festival and Screenwriting Conference, an event dedicated to focusing on writers’ contributions to television and film, celebrated its 22nd year by bringing together aspiring and established writers, producers, filmmakers, development executives, agents, managers and directors.

Attendees to the screenwriting conference had the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of panels on writing for television and film. TVWriter.com was there to bring you some of the top takeaways from the event.

The DA VINCI’S DEMONS Hype Has Us In Its Spell

da_vinci's_demons_kiteHere’s what David S. Goyer, creator-writer-producer of the new Starz series, has to say about his new show, coming April 12th, via The H’wood Reporter:

“We’ve embellished it with what I’m calling historical fantasy; he had an incredible life and we didn’t have to embellish as much as you’d think. I didn’t want to do Ye Olde Historical Drama; I wanted to do something historical, viewed through a modern prism… Da Vinci is kind of superhero-y, there are so many legends and tall tales about him. People have said aside from Christ he’s the most recognizable figure in the world. My approach wasn’t unsimilar to adapting Batman and Superman — obviously we did a lot more research.”

Something to Look Forward to: DA VINCI’S DEMONS

Not only does the series sound intriguing, but Starz is doing something we’d like to see a lot more of: Promoting it by showing what a star its creator, writer David S. Goyer is. Let’s say that again: Goyer’s a star and Starz knows it.
