- Jonathan Hickman‘s graphic novel, Pax Romana has been put into development at Syfy. Special Forces! Time travel! Ancient Rome! World War III! (Whoever writes this is gonna have one hell of a glorious time. Call your agent and make that writer you. Or, if you’re producing this thing, call Yer Friendly Neighborhood Munchman’s agent and make it – hehe – moi.)
- Sera Gamble & John McNamara (SUPERNATURAL for Sera, IN PLAIN SIGHT for John-boy) are developing THE MAGICIANS, based on a series of books by Lev Grossman, also for Syfy. It’s described as “Harry Potter for grown-ups, so maybe Syfy will be able to get it right. (I know Sera and John can.)
- Frank Miller‘s comic book RONIN is being developed into a Syfy series also, and it too doesn’t have a writer.(So if you’re the proud possessor of a worldview from somewhere in the early Middle Ages, which is what munchie hears you’ll need to get along with Mr. Miller, it’s agent time again, baby! )
- Charles Soule‘s comic series Letter 44 is another project going the adaptation route at the Worst Science Fiction Channel in the History of Mankind. (Yeppers, that would be Syfy again.) Jonathan Mostow (TERMINATOR 3) is writing this one. (Which means nothing to me cuz I’ve never been able to make myself watch that flick. Ooh, I said “flick.” What does that mean? Hint: Not a term of endearment, Beloved Readers.)
- This just in, Matthew Federman & Stephen Scaia(WAREHOUSE 13)got the gig adapting PAX ROMANA. There goes our big chance. (Actually, there go 2 big chances: Yours/mine to get that gig and the viewers chance for this series to be anything but stupid Syfy Channel crap.)

- Eric Amadio (COLUMBUS DAY) & John Singleton (SHAFT) are co-writing SNOWFALL, a Showtime series about L.A., drugs, the ghetto, and everything else ugly about the town. (Which of course means this is on Ye Friendly Neighborhood Munchead’s “Must See” List!)
- Jonathan Ames (BORED TO DEATH) is developing BLUNT TALK a comedy series about a Brit determined to become the king of U.S. cable news, for Starz. (Yeppers, that’s the worst log line ever. But don’t despair, this baby has Patrick Stewart attached as the star and a two season order. OTOH, it has Seth MacFarlane attached to produce. But, hey, the brilliance of BORED TO DEATH will overcome! Mehopes, mehopes, mehopes….)
- Kat Likkel & John Hoberg (MY NAME IS EARL) are re-upping their overall development deal with ABC Studios. (Cuz they can, I guess. Let’s face it, MY NAME IS EARL isn’t the best credit on anybody’s list. And their more recent work – THE NEIGHBORS, well….)
- Michelle Lovretta (LOST GIRL) has sold KILLJOYS, an adventure/drama series about a “multi-planetary class war,” to Syfy. (Whoa, two buzzwords in one blurb. The munchman is cool with anything that says “multi-planetary” and “war,” but the “class” part could prove to be so overdone by the time this series – which already is on the new schedule – debuts. Thing is – this really sounds relevant…unfortunately for, you know, the current state of our little world.)

- Dave Hemingson (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER) has a new overall deal with ABC Studios. (Dave is a guy whose credits go way, way back, proving that every once in awhile a grand old pro gets the recognition – as in the chance to work – that he or she deserves. A tip of the munched-up hat to Mr. Dave.)
- Jon Lucas & Scott Moore (MIXOLOGY) are about to sign up for their own overall deal with ABC Studios. (These guys are mere children compared to some writers, but this muncher has always enjoyed their work. Thumbs up to yez, guyz.)
- Adrian Baker (newbie!) recently won the Media Producers Group of Ontario Outstanding Achievement in Writer/Producer award. (Yeppers, we know this isn’t as big a thing as an overall deal with ABC, but it’s a grand acknowledgement of all the work Adrian’s put in as an underground at Conestoga College. And, FTR, Yer Friendly Neighborhood munchman is happy to report any similar achievements.
- Paul Feig (THE OFFICE) has created and is running OTHER SPACE, a comedic science fiction series for – we swear – Yahoo. (So, yeppters, it’s a web series. But to get Feig Yahoo must be paying real TV-type money. Get your agent on the horn, cuz I know your work and you can do this show!)
- Bryan Gordon (THE OFFICE) is another new recruit for Yahoo’s foray into TV-type production. He’s overseeing SIN CITY SAINTS, a comedy about a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, Las Vegas, and pro basketball. (Considering the interweb demo, munchie can hear the toilets flushing this thing down already…which means you should try to get a gig here too – cuz if you’re lucky you’ll have a deal and a check before ever having to write what will be a quickly cancelled show.)

- David Franzoni (GLADIATOR) is developing the Fox mini series NAZARETH, about a certain son of God’s childhood back in the day after being abandoned by his oversexed daddy. (Well, hell, that’s how Yer Malevolent Munchy Man would write it, and I like to think that my head’s in the same place as biggies like David. So….)
- Felicia Day & Bryan Singer (if you don’t know these two there’s no point in reading this item anyway) are developing a new web series for Felicia’s Geek & Sundry YouTube channel. (Unless Mr. Singer’s recent legal problems screw this up. What legal problems? Ooh, don’t ask. But they’re salacious as all get out, so who could ask for anything more?)
- John Stephens (GOSSIP GIRL) has a new overall deal at Warner Brothers TV. (And his heading straight to GOTHAM as a writer-producer cuz idiot soap operas are of course the best training ground for stories about Batman when he was just a wee lad.)
- Cary Fukunaga (TRUE DETECTIVE) is adapting Tom Reiss’ Pulitzer Prize winning biography, Black Count as a major feature film. (So why are we mentioning it here? Cuz…TRUE DETECTIVE. That’s right, kids. Mobility is everything. A big TV series hit will give you a feature film career – and vice versa. Here’s hoping that Cary comes back to his senses…and TV!)

- Max Brooks (WORLD WAR Z, the graphic novel) has optioned his new book, The Extinction Parade to Legendary TV for development as a TV series. (So if you know Max it’s time to put in your bid for the writing gig. And if you don’t know him, now’s the time to change that and then put in your bid.)
- David Schulner (DO NO HARM) has extended his deal with Universal TV and will be developing away while the studio pays for an office, an assistant, and, munchie bets ya, a tidy chunk of change dropped into his auto-deposit every week.(Not much point in kissing up to David, though. He’ll probably write everything he develops cuz that’s where his value to Universal lies. Of course, if you like him and the friendship is real, that’s something nobody can fault you for. Except maybe your greedy agent.)
- Sarah Phelps (EASTENDERS) is adapting J.K. Rowling‘s novel The Casual Vacancy into a miniseries for HBO and BBC. (Yes, Ms. Phelps is a UK writer. We Amurricans are out. Live with it.)
- J. Mills Goodloe (THE BEST OF ME, whatever that is) is writing the pilot for a Bravo dramedy, ALL THE PRETTY FACES, about an immortal family in Half Moon Bay California. (Dramedy? Science fiction? A beautiful beach town? Sounds perfect to the muncher. Only one little fly in this ointment: It’s a vehicle for its producer, Jennifer Garner. And, hey, I admit it – Yer Friendly Neighborhood munchman is no fan of Ben Affleck’s women. Sorry.)
