Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 4/3/14

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are=&0=& (LAYER CAKE ?WTF?) is adapting Wilbur Smith’s novel Birds of Prey into a series scheduled for the UK. (So we know it has to be good. After all…it’s going to be British. Woo hoo!) David Benioff & Dan Weiss (GAME OF THRONES) have signed on for two more seasons on the show. (Which is great news cuz munch me would much rather hang with those guys than with THRONES creator George R.R. Martin. Can you imagine GRRM as your wingman? Didn’t think so.) Carol Leifer (SEINFELD) has a memoir – Lessons from a Life in Comedy – coming out April 8th. (The way we hear it, said tome is loaded with life and showbiz lessons. Which should be interesting since the two have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Wait, was that mean? As mean as what I said about His Wonderfulness, George Martin? Cool! Thanks!)

WGA, AMPTP Reach New Three-Year Deal

Sorry, kids, but it often seems like every Guild-Producer negotiation ends with a white flag.
Sorry, kids, but  sometimes we think every Guild-Producer negotiation ends with a white flag.

Yeppers, that’s what the Hollywood Reporter is saying, and we all know it’s always right.

WGA members have either received or are about to receive an email with the details. Nobody at TVWriter™ has gotten theirs yet, but here’s what the Reporter is telling us to expect:

the new three-year deal provides for 2% annual wage increases and a one-time 1.5% increase in employer contributions to the guild’s pension plan. read article

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are=&0=& (upcoming FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES) has a new overall deal with ABC Studios. (Cuz his previous shows, DON’T TRUST THE B— IN APARTMENT 23 and TRAFFIC LIGHT (?!) were such big hits, your little muncher supposes.) Julie Plec (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) has a new overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. (Cuz she’s got a bunch of shows on the air, don’tcha know? And that, justifiably, makes Julie hot, hot, hot!) Jennie Snyder Urman (EMILY OWENS, MD) has extended her deal at CBS TV Studios. (Woo! Talk about big hits. EMILY OWNS is right up there with – wait, don’t tell me – DON’T TRUST THE BITCH. How can you not love a business that rewards failure as well as TV does?)

TVWriter University Update

answersnextexitsign

Well, it had to happen sometime. We have a sudden cancellation in the upcoming Master Class given by LB his very special self, and that means there’s one surprise opening as of the April 10th starting date.

LB’s Master Class is for pro or pro-level writers only. People you’ve heard of have taken it, for crying out loud, wanting to get Larry’s feedback on various assigned projects before turning in their first drafts. read article

WGA: “Vote No on the Comcast-Warner Cable Merger”

shall-not-merge

by Team TVWriter™ Press Service

Yep, the Writers Guild of America has filed a report urging that the merger be denied, saying “The FCC should deny the proposed merger…which woulds give too much power over broadcast and cable networks. Comcast’s ability to blackout one-third of television viewers would force networks to agree to terms and rate st by Comcast, harming…programming.”

The Guild also said a hell of a lot more. You can read the entire filing here.

Remember, boys and girls, until this business is settled, TVWriter™ recommends we all close our eyes tight and send out good, healing energy to the greedy bastards who want to destroy the sandbox, making them so happy that they no longer feel the need to, you know, fuck us. read article
