WebWeekendEmailHeader

by Team TVWriter™ Press Service

Yes, we’re about to throw a press release atcha. But it’s for what looks to be like a very productive and, more than that, a potentially exciting weekend. Or to put it another way, we here at TVWriter™ sure as fuck wish we’d thought of this:

With web-based video production and distribution in national boom, local and regional filmmakers are creating video content designed from inception the web, transforming the way we watch movies and episodic programming as a culture. And with more and more local filmmakers creating their own web content, NOVAC is going to do what it does best: bring national talent and expertise to New Orleans, hosting a conference that develops community, networking and learning opportunities for local and regional filmmakers with the Web Weekend 2013 Conference, held from October 18th – 20th. read article

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Stuart Max Perelmuter (FAKE ID) is writing the pilot for WGN America’s SHADOW LAND, a drama set in feudal Japan. (Samurai fans have gotta love this one. And writers in general should too – cuz developing this baby is a sign that WGN America means business…and that means yay! a new market for us all.)
  • Matt Silverstein & Dave Jeser (AXE COP) have written an untitled sitcom for Fox about brothers from a multi-racial family. (C’mon, Fox, give us a title. Show us how you follow one like AXE COP. Puh-leeze?)
  • Kyle Jarrow (INSIDE) is writing the pilot for The CW’s ZE, a drama about a transgender teenager. (And if that doesn’t prove that The CW can do more than just shows about the youths of superheroes, then we don’t know what will. Except, that is, maybe actually broadcasting some non-super shows?)
  • Emily Silver (BONES) has sold her script, FINDING CARTER to MTV, which just ordered a pilot. (This is good news for all newbies cuz it turns out that FINDING CARTER was the spec sample that Emily used to get her start in the biz. So there’s hope, gang. Hope for us all!)
  • Emmy Grinwis (newb with some indie credits!) is adapting R.L. Stine’s novel Eye Candy into a pilot for MTV. The book’s about a young woman who teams with some cyber-cops to solve a series of murders that may have been committed by a dude she dated. (And another cable entity previously known for not doing scripted fiction enters the arena. We think this is a very good day.)

Andrew Orillion: Brewing Up “On the Rocks” 4

Casting a Multi-Cam Series
by Andrew Orillion

on-the-rocks-cast-tvwriter.comWelcome to part four of the behind the scenes look at the making of On The Rocks. Last time, I wrote about the writing staff and how stories were broken for the series. This time, I’m going to focus on the intricacies of casting.

Web Series Aren’t Just For Friends and Roommates

In the early days of web series, most shows used limited sized casts comprised of friends, family and roommates of the creators. But, as web series have become more and more mainstream, their production has become more professional. Professional productions need professional actors, who aren’t always easy to find, especially when you can’t pay them upfront. Fortunately, the makers of On The Rockshad an ace up their sleeves. read article

Breaking Bad and Cliffhanger Structure

Now that BREAKING BAD is the King of Television, we can discuss it the way it deserves to be discussed. Oh, and dissect it too. Cuz that’s what writers do when they encounter brilliant writing:

by The Bitter Script Reader

cliffhanger-girl-tvwriter.com[Last] week’s Breaking Bad ended on a helluva cliffhanger.  After being betrayed by his former protegee, Walter White was led into a trap and finally arrested by his brother-in-law, DEA Agent Hank Schrader.  For a few moments, viewers dared to hope that the ending could be so bloodless.  Hank and his partner tricked Walt to leading them to where he’d buried millions in drug profits.  However, this happened to be out in the middle of nowhere and Hank hadn’t made this arrest an official DEA operation, so his own office had no idea where he was.

After savoring Walt’s arrest, Hank called his wife Marie and told her “I got him.”  It at last seemed over, and there was relief in his voice as he assured her everything was going to be okay now.  Before he hung up, he told her he loved her. read article
