WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA WEST ANNOUNCES CANDIDATES FOR 2021 OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
via WGAW

Dear Members:

The Writers Guild of America West’s nominating committees have announced the initial list of candidates for the 2021 WGAW Officers and Board of Directors election.

The Officer candidates are as follows: President – Meredith Stiehm; Vice President – Michele Mulroney; Secretary-Treasurer – Betsy Thomas.

Despite its best efforts, the Officer Nominating Committee was unable to identify additional candidates willing to run for the three officer positions, as required by the WGAW Constitution. The Committee encourages any member interested in running for an officer slot to utilize the constitutional procedure for nomination by petition, described more fully below.

There are 19 candidates running for eight open seats on the WGAW’s Board of Directors as follows*: Adam Conover, Daniel Kunka, Nicole Yorkin (inc.), Dailyn Rodriguez, Dante W. Harper (inc.), John Rogers, E. Nicholas Mariani, David DiGilio, Marjorie David, Zoe Marshall (inc.), Robb Chavis (inc.), Liz Alper (inc.), Adele Lim, David Renaud, Aaron Wiener, Gregory Bonsignore, Alvaro Rodriguez, David H. Steinberg, Billy Domineau.

*Note: WGAW internal rules require candidates to be announced in an order determined by lot; (inc.) denotes an incumbent candidate.

In addition to the candidates selected by the Guild’s nominating committees, eligible members may also be nominated by petition. Members seeking nomination for the office of President, Vice President, or Secretary-Treasurer must obtain 25 member signatures in support of their petitions. Members seeking nomination for the Board of Directors must obtain 15 member signatures in support of their petitions. The deadline for submitting signed petitions to the WGAW is Friday, July 23, at 12:00 p.m. (PT). Members may download online nomination petitions by visiting the members-only section of the Guild’s website.

The WGAW will host a virtual Candidates Night forum, where Guild members may meet and pose questions to the candidates, on Wednesday, September 1.

Guild members will receive voting materials, including links to candidate, non-candidate, and rebuttal statements, if any, on August 30. Candidates may distribute additional campaign materials at their own expense. The voting period concludes at Tuesday, September 21, at 12:00 p.m. (PT). Members may vote online or by mail. In accordance with labor law, proxy voting is not permitted.

Finally, we want to take this opportunity to introduce a new feature of the Guild’s election process. Effective July 1, all current candidates, and any member wishing to qualify for nomination by petition, will have access to a new online platform designed to build and host the campaign website of any candidate who wishes to use it. The new platform will be sponsored by the Guild but administered by a third-party vendor, Thinklogic. The purpose of this new tool is to make it easier and less expensive for all candidates to campaign for Guild office. Details about the new platform will be provided in a member email on July 1.
