  • Ed Bernero (CRIMINAL MINDS) is the showrunner for NBC’s upcoming spy drama STATE OF AFFAIRS. (Which means that if you’re looking for a gig, time to call your ole buddy and let me know how available you are. Unless he isn’t your ole buddy, in which case, have your agent peeps call him instead.)
  • Mike Sikowitz (THE McCarthys) & Mike O’Malley (SHAMELESS) are writing the pilot for Bill Cosby’s new NBC series called HOW BILL COSBY SINGLE-HANDEDLY SAVED NETWORK TV…or not, who the hell knows?(One thing we do know: Cosby has the reputation for being the worst boss in TV, a tyrant who makes Roseanne look like a sweetheart, so lotsa like and long life from the munchman to Mike and Mike!)
  • Maya Ilsoe(no credits in the press release) has sold THE LEGACY, a Danish series about – well, it doesn’t really matter what this is about cuz it’s a soap opera) to Universal Cable which hopes to make it an “event series” as though changing the name will change the animal itself. ‘Scuse me while I yawn, my friends.)
  • Steve Esmail (COMET) has sold the drama MR.ROBOT, about a computer hacker who protects people without ever having to deal with them personally, to USA Network. (Yeppers, that’s gonna be a good one: An anti-social hipster sitting at a PC all day, going from house to coffee shop to parking lot…whoa, Yer Friendly Neighborhood Munchman simply cannot wait for this baby!)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Joe Weisbert & Joel Fields (THE AMERICANS) have new overall deals with FX Productions. (Deals that could have gone to writers who are just as good if not better but aren’t running a major hit. That’s right, they’re discriminating against us noobs again. Aargh!)
  • Marti Noxon (GLEE) has yet another new development deal, this one to adapt Gillian Flynn‘s novel Sharp Objects into a series for EOne. (A deal that also could have gone to a writer who is just as good if not better but hasn’t run any major hits. So…again the discrimination against the inexperienced/unsuccessful thing. Damn.)
  • Scott Silveri (GO ON) has a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV in spite of the fact that he hasn’t had a success since FRIENDS, which has been off the air, like, forever, chumps. (But it’s cool, it’s cool. Scott’s a good peep. Everybody says so. And you and me, we’re good people too, no? So it’s just a matter of time until all the good people with credits – even ancient ones – are used up and then, oh, dood, are we gonna clean up, or what?)
  • Linda Woolverton (MALEFICENT) is developing a TV series adaptation of Jean M. Auel‘s Clan of the Cave Bear series of books for Lifetime TV. (Which isn’t an overall deal and Ms. Linda’s new when it comes to TV so yer munchie buddy here has decided this deal is cool even though newer and less recognized noobs like you and me have been aced out yet again on account of how TV peeps just don’t understand that creativity can strike anybody at any time and so they’re really missing a couple of great bets by not funneling money into our pockets to adapt the hell out of this caveman crap they want to believe is literature and oh, hell I dunno if I can take this rejection much more!!!

  • Simon Rich is adapting his book, The Last Girlfriend on Earth, Man Seeking Woman, into a comedy series for FXX. (The show is described as being about a man who “enters the dating scene, a nightmarish hellscape of untold horror.” Hey, they got that right. Now we’ve just got to hope for a few laughs.)
  • Dan Harmon (where have we heard that name before?) is prepping a 6th season of COMMUNITY for Yahoo, of all places, now that the show has been axed once again by NBC. (Which could mean that we’ll have to take Yahoo seriously when it comes to laughter. Um, anybody see what Yer Friendly Neighborhood Munchman did there? Anybody care?)
  • Jeff Pinkner (FRINGE), Josh Appelbaum “>(LIFE ON MARS),Andre Nemec (STAR-CROSSED) and Scott Rosenberg (LIFE ON MARS) are co-writing the pilot for the new CBS drama series, ZOO, based on the novel of the same name by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge. (Which means a big payday for all the writers involved, you can bet your muncher on that – and also big aggravation for the WGAW credits department, which is not known for its love of 4-person writing teams. As in they’re generally denied.)
  • Bryan Fuller (HANNIBAL) & Michael Green (THE RIVER HEROES, whatever that is) are co-writing a pilot for a Starz series adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s, um, masterpiece actually, American God. (Which my munchiness would greet with unmitigated pleasure if I hadn’t wanted that gig so #@!$ing much. But this is still the best TV development news I’ve heard since I started writing this department! Fucking AMERICAN fucking GODS!)
