  • Jordan Belfort (the “inspiration” for THE WOLF OF WALL STREET) is developing a series described as “a MAN MEN-style TV show about the excess of WALL STREET in the 1980s for Brett Ratner’s company. (Cuz if there’s one thing TV needs in the 21st Century teens it’s a show projecting the values of an infamous drug consumer and convicted con artist. Nice to have such a bright light to help us get through these difficult times, eh?)
  • Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker (SURVIVING JACK) have sold a comedy based on a memoir by Col. Chris Hadfield, the well-known astronaut/internet video sensation. (Yeppers, it’s all about how much harder normal life on the ground is than being an outer space celeb. My enthusiasm is, um, well, how’s “nil” sound?)
  • Amy Holden Jones (BLACK BOX) is writing the drama pilot 10 BEACON HILL for ABC, described as “a medical procedural…about a brilliant team of doctors who take on the most difficult cases. (How does this differ from HOUSE? Dig it – the head of the team is an ultra-caring medical genius instead of a dick. Hmm, munchikins thinks that could be a welcome change.)
  • Andy Stern (newbie?) is writing a pilot for ABC about a female police psychologist who used to be a “real” cop herself. (And if that makes you wonder why your slightly more original ideas – whatever they are – keep getting turned down to the networks, keep this in mind: The producer of this series, and, I’m thinking, it’s intended star, is Ellen Pompeo, the star of GREY’S ANATOMY. Why aren’t I best buds with somebody who can get such a great vanity deal?)

Write in and tell me what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)

  • Danny Zuker (MODERN FAMILY) has a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV. (Cuz MODERN FAMILY is minting money for them and everybody on the staff is worth his weight in gold. Well, more than gold actually. Probably even more than, you know, bitcoins. Where can yrs trly get one of them, huh?)
  • Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumaker (S#*! MY DAD SAID) just made an overall deal with Warner Brothers TV. (Cuz their last show turned to S#*! which means they’ll work for peanuts now. And don’t have to be paid nearly their weight in bitcoins…but don’t worry; their agents are painting a much rosier pic for them cuz that, in case you wondered, is what agents really do.)
  • Jackie and Jeff Filgo (THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE) are writing SAVE THE DATE, for CBS. The show’s a comedy, natch, about a woman “who drunkenly books a wedding venue and is now faced with the task of meeting the right man in the right time.” (Which is all well and good, but what’s gonna happen in the show after the teaser? Legs, Mr. Moonves, legs – don’t you want a show that has ’em?)

Writing Deals and More Than Just Writing Deals – Whoa!

More writers to get to know…or be very, very nice to if you already know ’em:

  • SONS OF ANARCHY creator Kurt Sutter has a deal at FX to write DIVA. CLOWN. KILLER,” a comedy to star his wife, Katey Sagal.
  • James Wong, an old TV hand from 21 JUMP STREET, THE X-FILES, and more, is set to write and produce OCCULT, a cop show that sounds a lot like X-FILES (but with Michael Bay producing so you know it won’t feel like X-FILES at all).
  • NUMB3RS co-creators Cheryl Heuton and Nicolas Falacci are writing and producing a pilot based on Elmore Leonard’s short story When the WOmen Come Out to Dance for USA.
  • Shaun Cassidy of INVASION and BLUE BLOODS is writing an unnamed spy pilot for Fox and will produce the show alongside HOMELAND’s Howard Gordon.
