Everyone Deserves Fulfillment, Not Just Writers

YOU LEARN BY LIVING by Eleanor Roosevelt

…Which is why we aren’t messing around here today and are going right to the heart of the matter: Read this book! It was written 50 years ago, sure, but how can you not gain by learning things like this:

“Courage is more exhilarating than fear and in the long run it is easier. We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each new thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.”

And this:

Happiness is not a goal, it is a by-product. Paradoxically, the one sure way not to be happy is deliberately to map out a way of life in which one would please oneself completely and exclusively. After a short time, a very short time, there would be little that one really enjoyed. For what keeps our interest in life and makes us look forward to tomorrow is giving pleasure to other people.

Outside of marrying the late Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who, on the plus side, was a pretty damn great president of the U.S. although on the minus side he’s also an infamous wife cheater,  Eleanor Roosevelt was one hell of a wise woman. You Learn by Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life is the mother of all self-help books and still right there at the top of the list. Amazon has a new edition. We invite you to give it a shot. (And, no, TVWriter™ won’t get a penny if you click and buy it. For reals. Not bothering with that bullshit is one of the things we’ve learned by living.
