Locke & Key Has Faced A Long Uphill Battle To The Screen.

The new Netflix series Locke & Key has been through development hell on its long path to production. One other adaptation of Locke & Key did actually make it to release: In 2015, Audible produced a 13-hour audio drama, featuring a full cast of more than 50 actors, including Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany and Sixth Sense’s Haley Joel Osment, plus an original score by Peter Van Riet. The Netflix series has a less-mature tone that relies more on fantasy than horror, resulting in a TV-14 rating.

Producing Your Best Podcast: Behind-the-Scenes Gems with Keisha “TK” Dutes.

In this interview by Madeline Wright, Keisha “TK” Dutes discusses getting your work out there. Talking about how to get discovered, she says, “Make things. Make clips. Make stories. Make a show for yourself. I got more out of my own stuff and showing people and ‘forcing’ my way into the space by saying, ‘Here, I made a thing. I made another thing. And another.’ I am relentless about this, and then I invite people to see it! I had no business making an audio drama but I made two. Try different things. Surprise people. Be consistent.”

Help! My Audience Don’t Get In Touch: How To Engage Podcast Listeners.

This article by Lindsay Harris-Friel, co-editor of Fiction Podcast Weekly and writer/producer of the podcast, Jarnsaxa Rising, gives some excellent advice for engaging your audience. Bottom line: “Essentially, if you want your listeners to get in touch with you, make it easy. Use an embedded player with custom call to action buttons. It saves you a bit of work, and asking for input yourself shows appreciation. If you reach out in a positive way, and reward those who do likewise, you build community. Ultimately, the more you add value to your listeners’ experience, the more likely you are to engage listeners.”
