It’s no secret that to succeed in showbiz these days you need to be a get-along-gal/guy. It’s all about fitting into the corporate environment that TV and films especially have become.
For most writers, that means making a huge effort to “un-withdraw” and be open to others. As well as this can pay off – fame! fortune! (relatively speaking, of course) – it’s also important not to go too far. Turns out that being too open and friendly can hurt us even more than it helps.
The next time my mother starts in on how “anti-social” I am, this TVWriter™ minion is sending her the URL of the video below. It may not contain the secret to success, but maybe…just maybe…it’ll make things a little better between my family and me while I try to learn the magic of clawing up the ladder while smiling and writing at the same time.
