When we hear the news that Russell T. Davies, the humanistic genius who regenerated DOCTOR WHO and brought it to a whole new generation of TV viewers, was doing another science fiction series, WIZARDS vs. ALIENS, we jumped up and down with joy.
“Huzzah!” we shouted to nobody in particular. “RTD’s back in command of a cool sounding show. He’ll show Melancholy Moff [Steven Moffatt, who took over as writer-showrunner of DOCTOR WHO after RTD left] how the job is done.”
I’ll be at this particular affair, though. If ya go, look for me, okay?

Last night was a big one for TV writers. The Writers Guild of America, West, and the Writers Guild of America, East, which often seem to be two rival organizations instead of sisters-in-service to film and television writers, joined forces to pay tribute to “the 101 Best Written TV Series.”
The list is the result of online voting by members of both guilds and is a follow-up to a similar one, the 101 Greatest Screenplays, done back in 2006.
The idea behind the TV 101 list is to honor the writers of, “classic, trailblazing series and miniseries, as well as current and critically acclaimed programs” in all genres because, as our fearless leaders, WGAW Prez Chris Keyser and WGAE Prez Michael Winship said in, yeah, you know, a press release:
Today’s question is one I’ve answered a million and a half times before, in three million different places. I used to say it was the second most-asked question I got, right behind, “How did you get started?” Over the past few months, though, it’s bounded over its rival to become Number One.
In other words, our topic for today, as proposed by Dennis and Emily and Katrina and Rob and Tyrese and Jason and Sarah and two or three entire generations of talented and intelligent new writers is:
“How do I get an agent?”
2002-2013
When TVWriter™ first started, the heart and soul of the site was our Message Board. Writers at all levels posted questions and answers and rants, but only twice in its entire 10+ year history was anyone asked to leave and never darken our door again. Because we were all colleagues, in the trenches together, fighting the fight for truth, justice, and art and reserving our darkest vitriol for the “suits.”
Tens of thousands of posts on every imaginable topic gave genuine weight to our community. But the parade of history – and tech – never stops, and by 2008 or so it was clear that the Board had peaked and was on the decline. Since then, the number of new members and conversations has dwindled as social networks and the blog format grew into the online communication vehicles of choice.
