Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
The TV development season is in full bloom. TVWriter™ is being inundated with deals.
Now if only a few of them were – sigh – ours…
- DL Hughley (THE HUGHLEYS) is teaming up with Sivert Glarum & Michael Jamin (BRICKLEBERRY) to create and write an untitled new FX series about, well, all about Hughley and his family, or so it seems. (Why untitled? We’re guessing it’s cuz somebody else owns the rights that go with the name THE HUGHLYS. Remember, kids, never sell the use of your own name to nobody nohow!)
- Kara Taylor (author of Prep School Confidential) is writing the pilot for a CW series called THE REVENGERS, about two friends who plot revenge when they find out they’re both dating the same guy. (And after the pilot, what? Do they keep making the same mistake every week? Warning bad/sexist joke coming: Are they both blond?)
- Shawn Wines (UPSTAIRS) is writing a Fox sitcom called FIVES, about a group of “excruciatingly average” people trying to survive in L.A. (But that’s so easy. Just have them move to, oh, Pomona, like we did. Cuz otherwise there was nothing funny about the pain.)
- Matt Witten (HOUSE) is writing CW pilot that sounds remarkably like FAME set in L.A. (And, yeppers, it even has Debbie Allen attached. Too young to know what FAME was or who Ms. Allen is? In that case, all we can say is, #@%!)
- Aron Eli Coleite (AMAZON) is writing a soap opera-thriller pilot called HOME for Fox. (We don’t have anything else to say here cuz it’s a Jerry Bruckheimer project and we’re kinda boycutting those until he does something, oh, “intelligent,” I guess you could say. Sorry Brucky fans)
- Trent O’Donnell & Phil Lloyd (the Aussie series A MOODY CHRISTMAS) are adapting their series for Fox. (For those of you who are trying to learn how to write a good logline, here’s theirs: “The story of a young man who was smart enough to leave his family behind and dumb enough to come back again.” Learn the art of saying nothing but being as clever as possible about it and the world – or at least Australia and Fox Network – will be thine!)
