Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Cindy Chupack (SEX AND THE CITY) is writing DISH, which is essentially SATC in L.A. with fewer women, for ABC. (I dunno about this one cuz let’s face it, L.A. is just intrinsically less interesting, people-wise, than NY. Especially to yer once and forever munchman, who grew up right near Venice Beach, which seems to be DISH’s home turf. Well, actually I grew up in Thousand Oaks, but that’s close, yes? No?)
  • Annabel Oaks (AWKWARD) has sold IN SECURITY, a comedy that’s essentially CHARLIE’S ANGELS but half as long and, mehopes, twice as self-aware, to NBC. (Which, come to think about it, isn’t exactly aware of much these days so…I dunno about this. Unless it’s going to be a 21st Century GET SMART with hot babes, in which case I just might make myself watch, of course am dead against it cuz…my girlfriend is standing right behind me as I type.)
  • Melissa Rauch & Winston Rauch (THE BIG BANG THEORY) are writing IF WE’RE NOT MARRIED BY 30, a pilot for CBS, the network known all over the world for not understanding one single thing about human beings under 50, let alone 30. (So it’s pass-a-may-mucho on this one, even if it is co-written by THE BIG BANG THEORY co-star Melissa Rauch, who just may be the real reason I tune in that silly little show religiously every now and then.)
  • Allyn Rachel & Patrick Carlyle (web series COUPLE TIME) have sold CRESCENT HEIGHTS, a comedy about, um, the L.A. street Crescent Heights, to Fox. (Hey, they’re peer producers! With a hit web series! Tell munchy everything you need him – me – to do and I’m on it cuz once upon a time I prophecized that the web would be TV’s new breeding grounds and, dammit, we gotta make it happen!)

That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are

  • Cindy Chupack (SEX AND THE CITY) is writing the pilot for THE LONGEST DATE, a Fox Network sitcom based on her upcoming memoir The Longest Date: Life as a Wife. (Hey, LB, if they’re going as far back as SATC for writer type people, maybe they’ll get to you and your generation soon!)
  • David Magee (LIFE OF PI) has written the pilot for an ABC drama series to be called TRAVELERS, about – what else? – a family that travels through time. (We confess that we’re looking forward to this one, but primarily because we want to see what a Magee script is like without CGI tigers et al.)
  • Further news on the David Magee (LIFE OF PI) front: Turns out he’s also adapting LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN for Fox and a comedy called AMERICAN GIRLS ON VACATION for Showtime.  (In case you’ve been wondering why, amid the plethora of networks that can give us gigs most of us never get one. It’s because of dudes like David, not because we suck or have been blacklisted. Whew.)
  • Janine Sherman Barrois (CRIMINAL MINDS) has a fresh new overall deal with ABC Studios, under which she’ll continue as E.P. of CRIMINAL MINDS while developing other bone-chilling stuff. (Wait, she also writes comedy, having working on THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW. Don’tcha hate when other people are way multi-faceted?)
