Yes, I know. I’m late seeing this, but, thank the Great God Netflix, see it I did.
And I thought it was great.
Not as much action as Wheedon’s AVENGERS. Nor as much comedy, but to quote another classic, “What’s there is cherce.”
Anyone remember the advertising tag line from Christopher Reeve’s first SUPERMAN movie: “You’ll believe a man can fly.”
The recent crop of Marvel films makes me believe superheroes are real.
No kid – especially not this one, whose first comic book was the issue of the original All Star Comics where the Justice Society went into the future – could have asked for more.
I thought it was good, but I thought Iron Man was better. Hemsworth is a tad wooden at times, but while Tom Hiddleston is great as Loki. There were a few transitions where I was left wondering what got cut in between scene A and scene B, but it’s generally entertaining and Stellan Saarsgard was great in his supporting role. I didn’t quite buy Anthony Hopkins as Odin – I suspect I’d have been happier with a more physically imposing actor in that role. But as you say… of the current crop of superhero, this is not the worst, and it provided invaluable backstory to the Avengers movie. Which. Rocked. My. World.
What can I say… I’m a huge Whedon fan because his approach to heroic roles is always to start with a flawed individual, then lead them to conquer their flaws before conquering their foes. BTVS, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse… they all had that element to them.
Oh lordy… so many grammatical hiccups in that. It’s early in the morning here. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 😉
I loved it too, for the most part. Had a serious problem with Jane as a character and Thor’s “great love”. I know the romance in that movie is a C or D plot, but it should still holdup to scrutiny and it doesn’t. I hope they fix that in Thor 2. Otherwise, very entertaining film.
I didn’t have a problem with the Thor-Jane Foster situation because it was so totally NOT from the comics that I just ignored it.
Besides, in the film they know each other for, what, 3 days? Just about the same length of time as Romeo and Juliet…and that’s still holding up pretty well, no?
