Now That the People’s Pilot & Spec Scriptacular Have Ended, Here’s What’s Happening
Time now for a genuine TVWriter™ Update
(Just in case you missed the e-mail)
Whew. The People’s Pilot and Spec Scriptacular Television Writing Contests have closed for 2013, and before we say anything else we want to thank all of you who entered, all of you who got in touch with TVWriter™ about entering, all of you who thought about entering, and all of you who have been supporting this website for the past 15 years. Our lives – especially that of Our Leader, LB – wouldn’t be the same without you.
This time around, the contests’ final days were especially hectic. 5 hours before the PP and SS were scheduled to close on June 1st, our merchant account’s servers went down, which meant nothing could be processed. They came back up about 12 hours later, and we extended the deadline by 48 hours to make up for the problem.
The post-final days have had some problems as well. We can’t say for certain that it was our traffic that caused the merchant account’s machines to go kablooey (and we certainly hope it wasn’t), but we do know that the first thing in our e-mailbox on June 4th was a notice from our web hosting company that increased visitor traffic to TVWriter™ was bogging down their system and it was time for us to remedy the situation by upgrading.
This means that the good news-bad news for us is that TVWriter™ is more popular than ever before in its history and our contests attracted more entrants than we’ve had in a decade but as a result our tech costs are tripling.
Now we understand why corporations are so concerned about, you know, moolah. But for us, the increased cost of doing business is worth it. Because hokey as it sounds, our business is giving. (Hey, LB needs the good karma, what can we say?)
Those of you who’ve entered probably want to know what’s going to happen next. So here’s where we are:
All the entries have been backed up and downloaded to the judges’ computers.
Processing the entry form information has begun today.
We will fill everyone in on the entry stats – categories/genres/etc. next week.
Next week will also mark the beginning of the actual reading/grading of entries.
Our original hope was to announce Semi-Finalists, Finalists, and Winners in August and September. Our new hope is to finish all of it before the end of August.
Oh, one more thing. Be prepared for us to vanish for a few hours to a few days within the next week or so as we migrate to our expensive but oh-so-efficient new servers.
Again, TVWriter™ thanks to everyone for participating in the People’s Pilot, the Spec Scriptacular, and the site formerly known as TVWriter.Com. You’re the greatest!
What’s that? You’re new to this list and have no idea what we’re talking about? Everything you need to know about our contests is here:
