Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 11/4/14

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
by munchman

  • David Farr (SPOOKS) is writing THE NIGHT MANAGER, a miniseries based on John le Carre book. (The trades are all over this cuz it’s going to star Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, but this munchacha loves the idea cuz…le Carre, dammit. John *&%$ le Carre!)
  • Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit (SUPER FUN NIGHT) are writing the pilot for DAEDALUS 6, a science fiction comedy, for FX. (In the U.S., s-f comedies have a pretty bad track record, although the U.K. has given us the immortal RED DWARF. Will this be U.S. show that tops that one? Yer friendly neighborhood munchman is rootin’ for it.)
  • Kari Lizer (NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE) is developing an HBO comedy about an ex-nun who’s been disillusioned by the Church and is trying to adjust to being “an ordinary person.” (Oh yeah, that’s a funny one. Sure. HBO execs, take heed: This one would go over a lot better if it was a “perils of dating” show featuring that very same ex-nun. Trust me on this.)
  • Lauren Schmidt (POWER) is writing the pilot for an NBC drama series that, ahem, “delves into the life of a larger-than-life power who possesses the unique ability to look beyond the first impressions and social biases against her clients and yada yada yada.” (C’mon, NBC, fade it. You’re in humongous trouble if you need an endless logline to describe this or any show. And just cuz it’s eminently parody-worthy doesn’t mean anybody’s gonna watch. Sheesh!)

That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)
