Love & Money Dept – TV Writing Deals for 11/12/14

Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
by munchman

  • Justin Shipley & Jordan Shipley (newbies) are writing the pilot for TMC’s WRECKED, a comedy described as “LOST meets IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. (And as a lifelong fan of Mad yer munchero extraordinaro is thrilled to see this kind of parody tone coming to the Big Time. Um, if you consider TMC the Big Time, that is.)
  • Kyle Killen (LONE STAR) has a new deal with Paramount TV for the usual development kind of stuff. (What’s that? You wanted a Paramount deal? Don’t despair, bunky, just head over to 20th, where Kyle used to be. If your people can negotiate fast enough with their people, maybe Kyle’s chair will still be warm enough for your wintery, um, cheeks.)
  • Alan Zachary & Michael Weiner (playwrights new to TV) are writing the pilot for a new version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for ABC. (This one could go either way, depending on how much input Mark Cherry, who may or may not have been the genius behind DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES has – and whether he’s as good as ABC seems to think. Cuz let’s face it: A serious version of this old brokedown tale probably isn’t gonna cut it these days.)
  • Oops, almost forgot the deal of the month:  Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (GLEE) is writing the pilot for RIVERDALE, a TV adaptation of – I swear on my sainted grandmother’s plastic choppers – fucking Archie fucking comics. (When I was 11 years old, I fantasized about playing Archie on TV. For reals I did. So scuze me while I had for a consult with my local plastic surgeon to see just what it would take to make me look anywhere near young and callow enough for the part now. Well, maybe just young enough. I’ve got the callow thing down, I’m afraid.)

That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)
