Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
by munchman

  • Craig Zadan (ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE) is writing the pilot for ABC’s MEN IN SHORTS, a comedy about the first openly gay man to compete in a major North American sports league. (Assuming that we want to consider a soccer league in this country major, that is. Can’t help but wonder how the real person this is based on, Robbie Rogers, feels about the more than a teeny bit patronizing title for the series. Can ABC’s execs really think that’s funny?)
  • The ever-edgy CW network is re-booting the film THE ILLUSIONIST as a period drama, and so far there’s no word on who’s writing it. (Or to put it another way, there’s no word on who even wants to write it. This film died many deaths at the box office, so why would The CW’s core audience of adolescents who wish they were superheroes living in Beverly Hills and boffing their next door neighbors ever want to watch?)
  • Mike Arnold (ARCHER) is writing a live-action CBS comedy that takes so many words to describe that yer absolutely best pal der muncher can’t stand the thought of typing the logline let alone watching the show. (No, munchy haters, that does not mean the idea is a good one. Wah.)
  • Michael Penny (RAISING HOPE) is writing a comedy for NBC based on the life of some guy who produced several films yer muncher has never heard of much less seen. (But sure, by all means do a whole series about the dood. It’ll give me even more ammo to cancel my DirecTV subscription and live my entire life on iTunes.)

That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)
