Latest News About Writers Who Are Doing Better Than We Are
by munchman

  • Tony Marchant (THE MARK OF CAIN) is developing an untitled 10-part cybercrime series featuring interactive elements for international syndication. (The good: Tonila has won a bunch of BAFTAs and is a hell of a writer. The bad: Ain’t nobody really saying what the show is about. Ah, but isn’t that what ye olde “development process” is for? In other words, I’ve got my eye on you, Tony baby.)
  • Sam Laybourne (THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW) is writing the comedy pilot JUVIE, about a naive overprivileged young man who takes a teaching job at juvenile hall, for ABC. (Yeppers, I’m munchily attracted to this concept, but this is one of those shows where the execution can make it the biggest hit since the last biggest hit…or kill it. Good luck, Sammy boy!)
  • Adam Barr (SUBURGATORY) and Johanna Stein are adapting her book, How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane, as a comedy for CBS. (The show will be produced by THE MILLERS star Will Arnett, and although I haven’t made much of it, this project is one of a large number of star-produced series being developed this season. Once upon a time, these kinds of things were called vanity projects, for just the reason you would suspect. But now? Is this series going to be for real? What’s the story, Adam and Eve Johanna?)
  • Krista Vernoff (GREY’S ANATOMY) is writing STUDIO CITY, a Fox drama pilot described as “THE O.C. meets SHAMELESS.” (Which means nothing to me except – ooh, drugs, juicy family fights, and, ultimately huge viewer disappointment when the series itself turns out not to be nearly as good as the concept. Say it won’t be so, Krista!)

That’s it for now. Write in and tell munchilito what you’ve sold today. TVWriter™ can’t wait to brag to all your friends. (And, more importantly, enemies. Hehehe….)
