PEOPLE'S PILOT COMPETITION
TV NEEDS YOUR IDEAS NOW MORE THAN EVER!

1. The PEOPLE'S PILOT especially encourages NEW writers because of the fresh outlooks and original perspectives they bring to the television industry, but in the interest of obtaining the greatest variety of new concepts possible this contest is open to ALL writers at all levels in all countries in the world except as expressly forbidden in paragraph 8 below.

2. Writers-submittors may enter as many times as they wish, but each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of $40. This fee can be paid by check or international money order in U.S. funds, or by credit card.

3. Entries can be made online, or by Mail or the equivalent messenger service, enclosing the entry form.

  • The preferred file format for online entries is .PDF so all the judges will be able to read them.
  • We recommend that each writer(s)-submittor(s) protect his/her material by registering it with the U.S. Copyright office, the Writers Guild of America, West, or or other reliable intellectual property registration service.

4. Pilot submissions must consist of a full-length PILOT SCRIPT (a teleplay designed to tell a typical story for the series while also introducing the main characters and overall situation) of a new broadcast, cable, or online (web) series intended for exhibition in the United States and/or any and all other English-speaking countries. The pilot script should include a title page presenting the following:

  • The title of the series
  • The title of the pilot episode
  • The name, address, & phone number of the writer(s)-submittor(s)
  • The e-mail address of the writer(s)-submittor(s)

5. Optionally, the writer(s)-submittor(s) may also submit a "proposal," "presentation," "prospectus," or "leavebehind" to which the judges can refer for clarification and/or additional series information. The best proposals contain the following elements:

  • A summary of the basic idea behind the show, including the setting, theme, profession, etc.
  • A summary of the main continuing characters, their background and appearance, personalities, and their interaction
  • A statement of the kinds of situation in which the characters will be placed, including what the basic structure of those situations will be, what effect these situations will have on the characters, and what effect the characters will have on them
  • A short list of possible episodes with enough different stories to show that the series will be viable week to week

Sample series presentations can be found here and here

6. All material must be the property of the writer(s)-submittor(s). It must be original work created by the writer(s)-submittor(s) and never before have been optioned, sold, or produced in any form in any medium.

7. Protections & Warranties
